Live Grades for Martin Emerson and Every Other Cleveland Browns Pick

The Cleveland Browns have been struggling for a long time now, and the team has to make some changes in order to become competitive. One way they can do that is by getting rid of the franchise quarterback who hasn’t won any games since 2016.

The Cleveland Browns experienced an up-and-down NFL season in 2021. Following a setback to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1, they won three consecutive games before losing two in a row. For the following two months, they alternated wins and losses until a three-game losing run ended their season as the year flipped to 2022.

Cleveland ended 8-9 in the end, missing the playoffs for the 18th time in 19 seasons. During the free agency and trade periods, though, the Browns went for it, replacing Baker Mayfield with Deshaun Watson and acquiring four-time Pro Bowl wideout Amari Cooper.

They’ll now focus on the 2022 NFL Draft, in which they have seven selections. However, since their first-round pick was traded to Houston in the Watson transaction, the Browns will not make their first selection until No. 44. Wide receivers, defensive ends, defensive tackles, and maybe a kicker are all likely targets for Cleveland.

Trading down from No. 44 could have been a good move, but I’m not sure what to make of the Browns’ decision. It’s not that Martin Emerson isn’t a good player, but Cleveland’s cornerback position is rather secure. Is it possible that they’re drafting for someone else?
