When Is the Last Time the Boston Celtics Lost Back-to-Back Games?

-

The Boston Celtics have not lost consecutive games since December 21st, 2009. They are on an impressive 72 game win streak and currently sitting atop the NBA’s Eastern Conference standings. With a trip to Madison Square Garden for Game 3 of the season going against them, will this be their first loss?

The “how many times have the celtics been to the finals” is a question that has not been answered yet. The Boston Celtics have never lost back-to-back games in their history.

The Boston Celtics have been on fire since mid-January. Something snapped after an abysmal start in which they were doomed to finish at.500. After a defeat — another dreadful game in which the Celtics let one slip away — everything appeared to turn around.

In the second half, the Celtics wasted another 20-point lead. The New York Knicks were the opponents in this one. Ime Udoka, a first-year coach, questioned his team’s mental toughness after this one. The players reacted forcefully.

The Celtics finished the season with a 26-6 surge after finishing 25-25 through the first 50 games. In the first round of the playoffs, they swept the Brooklyn Nets. The reigning champion Milwaukee Bucks and the top-seeded Miami Heat were both defeated. In the playoffs, the Celtics haven’t dropped consecutive games. In fact, it’s been a long time since Boston has lost consecutive games.

In their past 50 games, the Boston Celtics are 38-12.

The Celtics’ ability to make the playoffs, much alone the NBA Finals, was a significant question mark throughout the first three months of the 2021-22 season. Not only were the players, coaches, and supporters dissatisfied with the team’s performance. Things had deteriorated to the point that the players and coaches had no choice but to express their dissatisfaction publicly.

Marcus Smart chastised Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown for not distributing the ball enough at a postgame news conference in November. Smart went public instead of speaking with them behind closed doors. It wasn’t the wisest move, but it may have jolted them awake.

On few instances, Udoka questioned his team’s effort. After a defeat to the Los Angeles Clippers, Udoka called out the lack of effort on a West Coast tour.

According to ESPN, Udoka claimed, “We just played a quarter and a half.” “Giving them points is the most difficult aspect. The turnovers (22) were a sufficient present. At times, the effort and inconsistency are aggravating.”

After the Celtics lost a 24-point lead against the Knicks in January, Udoka questioned the team’s mental fortitude.

According to MassLive, “some people enjoyed it, other people didn’t.” “The team reacted like they have all year, and we really told them to stop wasting time and give away these leads.” We had blown two or three 19-point leads, as well as games against Cleveland, Milwaukee on Christmas, Chicago early in the season, and New York. So it was a turning moment for us in terms of being weary of losing games in which we had built up leads.”

The Celtics finished the regular season with a 26-6 record and are 12-6 in the playoffs.

When was the last time the Celtics lost two games in a row?

The Celtics’ winning streak extended into the playoffs. In Game 1 against the Brooklyn Nets, they seemed to be reverting to their former selves. They were up by double digits in the fourth quarter before falling down by five points. Instead of wilting, they fought back and won on a buzzer-beater by Tatum. The Celtics swept the Nets in a four-game series.

They defeated the Bucks and Heat in seven games, ratcheting up the intensity in the championship games. The Celtics may not have taken control when they should have in the playoffs at home, but they have always bounced back. Boston has never lost two games in a row in the playoffs.

In fact, you had to go back to March to find the Celtics losing two straight games, and even that is debatable.

The Celtics were defeated by the Toronto Raptors on March 28. They were defeated by the Heat at home two days later. The Celtics were missing four starters in the game against the Raptors. Despite the absence of Tatum, Brown, Al Horford, and Robert Williams, the Celtics pushed the Raptors to overtime before falling 115-112.

Technically, it was the last time the Celtics lost two games in a row. You’d have to go back to January 19 and 21, when the whole Celtics squad dropped two games in a row.
